Page 2: ...the above men were named to collect the money owed and deliver it to the town. Captain Joseph Frost, John Simpson, and Meshach Bell commission the meeting adjourned to the 14th of June if there is not a full meeting then to be further adjourned to the present 32 people. The meeting was held each month and then adjourned to the next month, until that ended in January of 1763. C: Notification, 1762 Tuesday, March 2nd is the day appointed by the town charter to elect new officers. They are to meet at the meeting house to do that, to finalize plans for the bridge over Little Harbour, and any other business they have. Signed Joseph Newmarch, Town Clerk, February 27, 1762 D: The Select Men's Account with the Town of New Castle, anno 1762 The document discusses the estate of Joseph Newmarch, Esquire. The selectmen paid the Reverend Mr. Chase, the schoolmaster Mr. Sheafe, Mr. John Randell, Mr. Alcock Stevens, Mr. Henry Prescott, Mr. Noah Sherburne, Mr. Meshach Bell, Jr., George Frost Esquire has taxes outstanding that were carried to 1763. It is signed Thomas Bell and Abraham Trefethen, selectmen. The auditors were Joseph Frost and Henry Prescott. E: Receipt of goods (rum and sugar) to Henry Prescott, dated 1762 to 1764 It is signed by George Frost, Esquire; Joseph Newmarch, and Thomas Bell F: Mr. Stevens Account, 1762 The town of New Castle to Alcock Stevens, it includes a list of items he received. G: Notice to elect two men, one from Rye and one from New Castle, on March 9, 1762. The document is dated February 17, 1762 and signed Joseph Newmarch, Thomas Bell, William Frost, and William Seavey. The results of the meeting were added to the bottom: Captain George Frost moderated, Captain George Frost to represent New Castle but the legality of the vote was objected against by (??) Bell for that the ?? in Rye had no right by law to vote, Richard Jennes was voted to represent Rye. H: A financial statement, 1762 Names listed include Mr. Chase, Captain Randall, Alcock Stevens, Captain Bell, Henry Prescott, Meshach Bell, Noah Sherburne, John Randell, George Frost Esquire, Joseph Newmarch Esquire as clerk. I: Received within contents ?? Bell, 1762 The surveyors on the highways with Meshach Bell received rum, sugar, egg toddy, rye, and other items. Captain George Frost is ordered to pay Meshach Bell, and the document is signed Thomas Bell, Joseph Newmarch, and **a faded signature, possibly Noah Sherburne?** J: Bill, 1762 Stephen Chase billed the town of New Castle for his salary and "to my Negro for ringing the bell and taking care of the meeting house." On the reverse side are the results, that the court ordered that this petition be given to the selectmen and assessors and for them to give cause as to why this petition was not granted. |
